Typical signs of worn linkage bearings include play in the swingarm or rear wheel, knocking noises when the suspension compresses, stiff linkage movement and imprecise suspension response. Damage is often caused by water, dirt, corrosion or grease being washed out.

When overhauling the linkage, the bearings and seals should preferably be replaced as a complete set. Thoroughly clean all bearing positions and apply suitable water-resistant bearing grease to the needle bearings, sleeves, bolts and contact surfaces before assembly.
